Bairro Verde (Green Borough) is a project supported by the BIP/ZIP Lisboa 2023 – Local Partnerships programme from Lisbon City Council.

Acknowledging the added value of the social impact and psychological well-being gardening offers in a domestic and urban context, the project revolves around a series of group and participatory self-managing initiatives that promote sustainable community living and exchange, and individual and collective knowledge and appreciation.

One aspect of the project involves the planting of 200 balconies along Rua de São Paulo, creating a green corridor, raising awareness of environmental issues and stimulating positive experiences in the public sphere. This reinforces community spirit and promotes neighbourliness and the responsible use of public space. In parallel with this planting, there will be a series of activities including group gardening and lunches, markets, workshops, guided visits, talks and plant swaps.
