This garden is open daily and can be visited independently of the festival's programme.

The Tapada da Ajuda, a natural environment featuring both forest and agriculture that is one of the green recreational spaces Lisbon has to offer, is home to the Terra de Minas Horticultural Park. Located on the School of Agriculture (ISA) campus, it opened in April 2023 as part of an agreement between Lisbon Council and ISA establishing that urban agriculture is a fundamental part of the municipal strategy for creating and maintaining green spaces. Horticultural parks were included as an integral element in these urban spaces, to complement the more conventional uses of green space.

As part of its mission to educate about agriculture good practices and encourage positive social interaction between Lisbon’s citizens, in the Tapada da Ajuda you will find not only plants grown for food but also rare ornamental species such as the Chilean wine palm (Jubaea chilensis) and the Bhutan pine (Pinus wallichiana).

Edible and Medicinal Wild Plants at Terra de Minas

Terras de Minas Horticultural Park is located on the School of Agriculture (ISA) campus, opening in April 2023 as part of an agreement between Lisbon Council and ISA.

We invite you to discover the native and exotic plants in the Horticultural Park, medicinal and edible or toxic, and which are the most common. It’s time to eradicate the concept of ‘weeds’ and recover the idea that many of these plants contribute significantly to our diet and health, as well as being vital for the ecosystem, as a shelter for animals, a source of food for pollinators and providing protection against soil erosion. At the end of this activity, we will taste wild teas and patês prepared using some of the plants we identify.

Conducted by: Filomena Aivado (Hortas Ecológicas), Ana Riscado e Luísa Martinez (Câmara Municipal de Lisboa team)
Location: Terra de Minas Horticultural Park
Meeting point: pedestrian entrance to Tapada Ajuda, next to the Veterinary Medicine Faculty

For ages 8 and above
Capacity: 20 people
Duration: 120 minutes

Registration not required. Places are available on a first come, first served basis.

* We recommend bringing a hat and a water bottle.
