This garden is full of intricate details inscribed on tiles and statues from centuries past, mixed in with contemporary work by Portuguese artists such as Eduardo Nery. A sculptor and painter, his distinctive geometric compositions appeared on multiple media, from tapestries to tiles and even on the Portuguese calçada paving stones.
This guided visit will discuss the influence of Islamic art on Eduardo Nery’s famous multicolour and geometric compositions in tiles, as well as telling the story of how the artist’s work was installed in the Laranjal Garden, breathing new life into the gardens of Fronteira Palace.
